How Should Boxing Shoes Fit? Sizing Guide for Nike, Winning & Mizuno

Nike Machomai 3 boxing shoes

A boxing shoe that fits badly costs you balance, power and comfort. Boxing shoes are built to fit closer than everyday trainers, so the size you wear in running shoes isn't always the right one. Here's how a boxing shoe should feel and how to get the size right first time.

How a boxing shoe should fit

  • Snug, not painful. Your foot should feel held from heel to toe, with no sliding when you pivot.
  • Thumb's width at most. Leave only a small gap (around 0.5–1 cm) in front of your longest toe.
  • No heel lift. Your heel shouldn't rise out of the shoe when you go up on your toes.
  • Room to spread. Your toes should lie flat, not curled or pinched at the sides.
  • Train in your socks. Try shoes on with the socks you box in.

How to measure your foot

  1. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall.
  2. Mark the tip of your longest toe.
  3. Measure from the wall to the mark in centimetres. Measure both feet and use the longer one.

Sizing by brand

Nike (HyperKO, Machomai, Tawa)

Nike boxing shoes run narrow. Most boxers order half a size up from their usual Nike trainer size. Sizes US 6–12.

Winning (RS-001, RS-100, RS-003, FOLD Type)

Winning sizes by foot length in centimetres, 25.0–29.0 cm (about US 7–11). Pick the size closest to your measured foot length.

Mizuno (Finisher LOW and MID)

Mizuno Finisher uses a wider 2E fit and comes in US 4.5–10.5. A good option if Nike feels too tight across the foot.

Will boxing shoes stretch?

Mesh and knit uppers soften slightly with wear, but the length won't change. Don't buy a size too small expecting it to stretch – buy the right length and let the shoe mould to your foot over a few sessions.
